Trump Names First Female CIA Director, Here’s Her Story…

With Mike Pompeo being moved to take over at the U.S. State Department, the incoming Director of the Central Intelligence Agency is expected to be a thirty-year veteran named Gina Haspel

The Daily Caller reports that this will be the first time in the agency’s 71-year history that a woman has held the top post.

By most accounts, Haspel has a very impressive resume. Former Chairman of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, Mike Rogers described her this way:

“I have had the privilege to work with Ms. Haspel during challenging and intense times for our nation’s security. She is an exceptional leader, patriot and consummate professional. She showed the savvy and grit needed in difficult situations that has garnered respect of colleagues and adversaries alike. Her commitment to the mission and rule of law are unparalleled.”

The majority of her tenure with the agency was spent in clandestine operations. A year after 9/11, Haspel was heading up a secretive CIA prison in Thailand where alleged al Qaeda terrorists Abu Zubaydah and Abd al-Rahim al-Nashiri were subjected to enhanced interrogation techniques like waterboarding.

When Congress announced that it would be investigating the abuses of such techniques, it is reported that Haspel was involved in the destruction of video tapes made of the interrogations.

Haspel currently works as acting deputy director of the CIA. She has held the posts of deputy director of the National Clandestine Service, deputy director of the National Clandestine Service for Foreign Intelligence and Covert Action, chief of staff for the director of the National Clandestine Service.

Her service has also been acknowledged with her winning of the George H. W. Bush Award for excellence in counterterrorism; the Donovan Award; the Intelligence Medal of Merit; and the Presidential Rank Award, the most prestigious award in the federal civil service.”

It remains to be seen how the Left will position itself to undermine the career of Haspel.
